Frankie Henderson

Frankie Henderson is an artist, choreographer, performer, teacher, and, most of all, a lover of all movement. She recently received her MFA in dance from the Claire Trevor School of the Arts at the University of California Irvine. Frankie has had the opportunity to work with many distinguished artists, such as Leandro Damasco from Diavolo Dance Company, Kathryn Alter from the Limón Dance Company, Monica Barnes from Monica Bill Barnes and Company, and Fabian Wixe, an expert teacher of flying low. She has also had the fortune of being selected to perform work, including her own choreography Labeled Package, at the American College Dance Association (ACDA), where it was selected for Nationals of 2020 and was being considered for Jacob’s Pillow 2020 prior to the pandemic. It was also selected to perform at the CDC festival in Florida. Frankie's choreography is currently centered around the strength of the female form. Her thesis work involves challenging and expanding upon feminine definitions and integrating strength into feminine embodiments. Though her work can be successfully viewed from an abstract point of view, she does not shy away from dances that speak loudly and clearly to her personal interest in complex gender issues and feminist ideation. She creates work that is purposeful and is unafraid to explore provocative questions of sexual identity and questionable social norms while deftly applying a tone of parody, wit, and irony to counter the underlying seriousness of the subject. Frankie works hard to bring her dancers' stories to life by empathizing with their individuality and collaborating with their unique thoughts and experiences.
